It's just not what it once was.

Once again, another Halloween. This year is only slightly different. While we still will not be handing out candy or anything, This year it’s not so much the scare factor, as it is we just don’t like what Halloween is about. Not enough of a reason for you? How about these articles about how Halloween is quickly becoming a pedophile’s wet dream.

Awesomely enough, while last year I caught alot flack from neighbors about the no trick-or-treating thing, this year, everyone I’ve talked to out here in our new neighborhood and circle of friends says the same thing.  “It’s just not what it once was.”  Every mom I talked to this year agreed that trick-or-treating just isn’t all that safe anymore, and the costumes for little girls nowadays.  Forget Halloween, it’s rapidly turned into slut-oween.  It’s not the fun, fantasy day it once was.  More and more families are turning to family parties, malls, and church festivals.

We are celebrating Dia Del Muerte instead, and yes, we are doing this a day or so early, and adopting the traditions in our own fashion. We have a table where we have set out items that remind us of Grampa.

We also had a silly string battle, ate a reasonable amount of candy, and had some green holiday punch (one part gingerale, one part green fruit punch, lots of lime sherbert).

But this year, we added Jack O’Lanterns.
