Ok… we get it. Your divided by race. What the big freakin deal? I dunno, maybe I don’t get it, cuz afterall, I’m a little Irish white girl… but dude! is it really like this? the constant talk about “representing my people” blah blah blah… I must admit, so far the tribe with the best attitude about the whole thing is Hiki (aka the African American tribe). The ones that seem most bothered by it are the Puka (aka the Asian tribe). While Hiki is having a great time, making jokes about their lack of survival skillz, Puka is worried about stereotypes, and wanting to represent “their heritage” by silencing the one guy who seems to not care at all what others think. Aitu (aka the Hispanic tribe) threw a challenge to get rid of someone they consider a slacker – classic Survivor blunder, but more on that later. Meanwhile, over at Raro (aka the White kids tribe), Nobody seems to know how do to anything with out Jonathan, who is frustrated with them all for being sheep, and not doing things on their own.
Cao Boi is great. *S* Who do you know can cure headaches and remove the “bad wind” by putting a red mark on your forehead? *S* I find it hilarious that he is Vietnamese and runs a nail salon. Reminds me of that Dat Phan joke about the Vietnamese plan for taking over the world, one toe at a time. *S* Bad I know. But hey, like Carlos Mencia says, “If you ain’t laughin’, you ain’t living!” I really hope that he does well in this game. I actually think that if he can survive til the merge, or some kind of tribal shakeup, he will go far. Boi’s biggest problem is going to be surviving his own tribe, his own “people”, who although they don’t mind that he can cure headaches, seem bothered by his lack of concern about stereotypes and “what America will think of Asians” based on the show. Newsflash for Puka! This show is not going to affect people’s attitude toward different races! There are haters in the world, and no one is going to say, oh wow, they did really well on that challenge, what was I thinking before? A racist will always be a racist. And all your whining about Cao Boi’s jokes will do is make you look like you need major surgery to remove the stick from your rear end.
In the end, I think the whole racial tribes thing was a genius marketing ploy, but otherwise not all that relevant. The only time it ever really comes into my mind is when the contestants themselves keep bringing it up. We get it. Your divided racially and ethnically. Get over it and play the freakin’ game.
