Silent Majority… Silent No More!

So…. because I’m a conservative, I am apparently not an independent thinker and definitely not open-minded.

Ok… a little background…

I am participating in a newsgroup related to graphics. A day or so ago, someone made a somewhat snide comment about my President. Normally, I just let such things slide, however this time I just couldn’t. I’m tired of being silent while people slam my politics. I’m tired of keeping quiet while people disrespect my President. So I spoke up.

I simply requested that we leave politics out of the discussion. It’s a graphics group, there is no reason to bring personal politics into a discussion board about graphics programs.

My simple request was met with accusations of being over-sensitive. I was also told that I needed to be more open-minded to other points of view.

You know what? Screw it. I’m tired of being silent while my politics and beliefs are made fun of. I’m sure the fact that it was a company rep who said it made a big difference in my decision to speak up this time. But I am tired of being a member of the silent majority. And if we all spoke up, maybe there would be some changes around here! Silent Majority be silent no more!!!

One thing I have learned through the years… When someone starts yelling about being open-minded, usually the person doing the yelling needs to take his own advice. Just like the one yelling “racist!” is usually the first place you should look to find one… So too with the person complaining about others not being “open-minded.” Usually, it the complainant who is refusing to allow alternative points of view into his thinking.

So complain away… But I will not be silent anymore.

  1. Good for you! I did the same thing recently with a dear friend. I was very nice in the way I phrased my remarks, but I wasn’t going to let stand things that just were not true about the President. She had the good graces to write back and thank me for showing her another POV!
