So, yea. I’ve been MIA for a while. Did I mention that I have an ear infection? Lovely. So… seems like all I’ve done for the past month is bitch and moan about which body part is failing me now.
Did I mention that today is my podiatry appt? Because it is. I’ve been having trouble with my right foot, and pain so severe at times that I can’t walk. Also, my middle toes occasionally go numb for no apparent reason. I’m hoping he can fix the problem in the office today. I don’t want to drag this out longer than I need to.
At least my back is finally doing ok… as long as I don’t do anything stupid, like pick up my 30lbs child.
Did I mention my endocrinologist appt is April 30? Because my doctor couldn’t verify a thyroid issue, but agrees that all my symptoms add up to a thyroid issue, so I’m being sent to a specialist. Fun.
Did I mention that thePinkDiva’s pediatrician sent her to a psychiatrist about her temper, and Oppositional Defiance Disorder? Did I tell you that I disagree with the doctor? I’ve done the reading. While many of the symptoms fit. ODD is not my daughter. It’s not so much a purposeful defiance, because she does obey. She may yell about it, but she does obey. It’s more a problem of when under stress, of any kind, she shuts down. She forgets how to react. She annoys her brothers and us, not out of some malicious intent, but because she simply doesn’t read the facial expressions or pick up the social cues around her to realize that she is pissing people off. Did I mention that this is a symptom of Asperger’s Syndrome?
Did I mention that the Diva’s psych wants to get her alone? I’m not cool with that. She’s a nice enough lady, but there is no reason a 5 year old needs to be alone with a doctor of any kind. Personally, I think it’s a load of crap, because everything she’s already suggested, we do. We do the time outs, we do the “safe place” in her room. Yes, I understand the Psyc. wants to evaluate for different behaviors in different circumstances, but there is no way in hell I am leaving my child alone in a room with a stranger. I don’t care how many PHds or whatever you have.
I could tell her that, yes indeed, the behaviors are different in different in different environments. She can usually hold her temper in check in public. She behaves differently at Gramma’s, or under Dad’s watch. Because she knows where the limits are. And yes, she would be totally different at a school. Fact is, if she were forced to hold back all day in a school, it would only be 10 times worse when she got home.
This is a symptom of Asperger’s. This being able to control oneself in public, and then cutting loose at home… the rages. The inability to even look in her general direction during a rage. She has gotten better with age. It’s not as bad now as it was back in our old neighborhood.
Did I mention that the psych is also a social worker? That fact makes me a bit nervous. I guess I’m just so used to Social Services being an us vs them type mentality. At first, she was very on board with us doing homeschool. Then last visit, she started asking abt lessons. I had to explain that her questions were invalid because that’s not how we “school”. Suddenly, she wasn’t so on board with homeschool, and started questioning if they had passed a test or something. Luckily, we had just finished our week of CAT testing, so I could say, yes, and they did awesomely. But that was the start of red flags for me… it wasn’t until after that, that she started suggesting to my daughter, not even addressing this with me first, that maybe tPD would leave mom in the waiting room next time. Uh. No. Then she mentioned medication as an option, again. After we agreed last week that it was not a good option, and not something we wanted to do. Did I mention that I’m not cool with anyone I don’t know, esp a social worker/psych spending time with my FIVE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER alone? Call me overprotective, but no way in H-E-double hockey sticks. Over my dead body, chica.
Did I mention that we have finished CAT (California Achievement Test) testing? Did I brag about how well my children performed? Not yet? Well then… the Geek took the grade/age appropriate 1st grade test, & only missed 2 questions on all 6 tests he took. Hello 98th percentile. The Diva, who is technically in PreK, and not required to test for another 2 years, took the Kindergarten test. She scored in the 64th percentile, meaning she did as well as or better than 64% of kids who took the kindergarten test. Take into consideration that the state only requires a 24%, and yea. I’d say my kids totally rocked their tests. *S*
Did I mention that thePinkDiva put a hole in her wall last week during one of her fits? And then tried to cover it up. *sigh* She’s so much like her mother. (Not that I’ve ever done that before… Insert innocent whistle here.) And her Grandmother. And her Aunt Nani. It’s actually kind of scary.
Did I mention that GeekBoy has found social networking? Not Myspace or Facebook, *phew*. It’s a site for homeschool kids, and I checked it out extensively before allowing him to join. He’s already got a few “friends” that are his age. Seems cool. Did I tell you that this means that since he has problems writing and typing his words he is calling mom to come type for him every time? And that he uses Google Talk with mom all day to practice typing? And that he gets frustrated if I don’t respond right away? And that I have two other kids who need me to read and stuff with them, but the big Geek keeps “calling” me? *Sigh*
Did I mention that BigBoy, who is finally sleeping through the night again – hallelujah! – is entering the turrible threes. (It always seems to hit my kids a yr late) where he thinks he can tell mom & dad “no” and disobey just because he is BigBoy?
Did I mention that I’ve joined the Heart of the Matter research panel? and that I’ve joined in their newest book study?
Did I mention that the weather has been stunningly beautiful for the past few weeks, leading to many days outside, pushing kids on the swings? Did I mention that we had to buy a 3rd swing for the swing set because they fought constantly over the two swings it came with? (Pictures coming soon. just as soon as it dries out out there.)
Did I mention that it has rained almost every night this week? and that last weekend was spent indoors due to massive amounts of rain?
Did I mention that we spent last Sunday having a LOTR (lord of the rings) film fesitval? Here is an actual conversation that took place:
thepinkDiva: I love the guy with the long hair and the bow and arrow.
Me: You mean Legolas? why?
thePinkDiva: *sigh* Because he looks nice. *sigh*
Crap. I’m in trouble. She’s only freakin’ 5!!! What the?? I thought Boys were supposed to have cooties or something! AHHHHH! Did I mention that my 5 year old is apparently boy crazy? already!
Did I mention that I think I have finally caught up on all the crap ya’ll have missed. and Did I mention that I am now incredibly sick of typing “did I mention”? *S*
lol… you sure mentioned alot… 🙂
Holy crap! We are too much alike. Too bad I didn’t realize that when you were just down the sidewalk from me 🙁
“that she started suggesting to my daughter, not even addressing this with me first, that maybe tPD would leave mom in the waiting room next time” Umm who in their right mind would leave any child alone with a stranger. Doctor or not. My jaw dropped when I saw you write that. I am having issues with my daughter. Not anger issues but speach. I tell you more later. Yeah she also is in the terrible 3’s. Totally skipped the 2’s. Hang in there. Mother’s really do know best. Don’t listen to that quack. No offense to anyone else 🙂 You are doing an amazing job with your children. Everytime I visited they were very mannered. And I have also been a witness to tPD’s rages. Any chance you want to home school my kids for me *S* TTYL
