Current Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker is nearing the end of his term. It is no secret that, because he is term-limited out in PGC, he wants the Governor’s office next. So who will run to take his place?
Mel Franklin was rumored to be making a run for the CE office, but those hopes were derailed when he was arrested for DUI stemming from a car accident that sent two people to the hospital. The new rumor is that Mel, who is also term-limited, is eye-balling the new Council At-Large seats. Karen “105-mph-makeup and email” Toles is also interested in the at-large seats.
Two new names have begun to circulate as potential candidates for the PG County Executive office – State Sen. Anthony Muse, and State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks. The former is a Bishop of a church which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy while he was serving on the Senate Finance committee. The latter got her start under former County Executive Jack Johnson before he and his wife were convicted on several charges.
The citizens of Prince George’s County are tired of the status quo. All of the current options are just more of the same. Hopefully someone fresh will step up to be a real contender in PGC.
