It’s called OPSEC, bonehead.

OPSEC = Operational Security.  OPSEC is why I can not disclose the time & date of my husband’s deployment to his own family, until after the event.  OPSEC is what keeps our military safe. OPSEC is why Geraldo Rivera got kicked out of Iraq for a while back in 2003.  It’s the reason the Army cracked down on bloggers.  Keep that in mind as you read this:

A congressional trip to Iraq this weekend was supposed to be a secret.

But the cat’s out of the bag now, thanks to a member of the House Intelligence Committee who broke an embargo via Twitter.

A delegation led by House Minority Leader John A. Boehner , R-Ohio, arrived in Iraq earlier today, and because of Rep. Peter Hoekstra , R-Mich., the entire world — or at least Twitter.com readers—now know they’re there.

Seriously, someone who was the head of the Intelligence Committee should know better!  Sir, I’m happy you had BB (BlackBerry) service in Iraq for the first time ever, but please, control yourself!  You put the whole trip in jeopardy! I just hope Mr. Hoekstra‘s boneheadedness doesn’t screw up the use of twitter for the rest of the GOP. *sigh*
