{"id":881,"date":"2007-12-07T07:33:29","date_gmt":"2007-12-07T12:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yuriar.com\/wp\/?p=881"},"modified":"2007-12-07T07:33:29","modified_gmt":"2007-12-07T12:33:29","slug":"and-then-mary-was-a-single-mother","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yuriar.com\/katp\/2007\/12\/07\/and-then-mary-was-a-single-mother\/","title":{"rendered":"and then Mary was a single mother&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I woke up to this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.yuriar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2007\/12\/071206_marysinglemom.jpg\" alt=\"Mary, the single mom?\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And it so reminded me of the time I was in like 4th or 5th grade or something and finally got a crack at the part of Mary in the Christmas Pageant at our church. Normally this older girl ALWAYS got the part, cuz like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0085231\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alice Wendlekin<\/a>, she was the perfect picture of the Virgin Mary, well, that and she was the oldest girl in the class. But this particular year, the guys picked the equivalent of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saved_by_the_Bell#Samuel_.22Screech.22_Powers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Screech<\/a> to play Joseph, and &#8220;Alice&#8221; refused to be anywhere near the boy.<\/p>\n<p>The Sunday School teacher didn&#8217;t tell me ahead of time who was Joseph, but realy it wouldn&#8217;t have mattered.\u00a0 I got to be Mary.\u00a0 That was such a big deal, ya&#8217;ll have no idea.\u00a0 I mean, all I had to do was walk up the isle with Joseph, pull the baby doll out of the hiding spot and drop him in the manager at a certain time, and stand next to the manger while the Christmas Story was read and songs were sung. \u00a0\u00a0 Then the day of the pageant arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Just before I was supposed to go on stage,\u00a0 Mom pulled me aside.\u00a0 &#8220;___ is sick.\u00a0 He may need to sit down.\u00a0 I just heard his dad tell him that if he feels like he&#8217;s gonna pass out, he should sit on his knees.\u00a0 And if he needs to barf, he should get off the stage through the choir loft door.\u00a0 I just want to let you know so you aren&#8217;t surprised or anything if he runs off the stage.&#8221;\u00a0 Great.\u00a0 And off we went.<\/p>\n<p>We actually got through most of the pageant.\u00a0 Although\u00a0 Joseph kept turning various shades of yellow and green.\u00a0 Then he broke out in a sweat and started swaying.\u00a0 Just as Mary &#8220;delivered&#8221; the baby (read:\u00a0 Got the doll out from behind the bush and dropped him in the manger)\u00a0 Joseph hit his knees.\u00a0 I played along and knelt down too, and when the lights came back up, there was Mary and Joseph kneeling besides the manger.\u00a0 Joseph wasn&#8217;t doing so hot though.\u00a0 He kept swaying, and caught himself a few times before he went completely over.\u00a0 Then, about 3 songs before the end, he abruptly ran out the choir loft door, leaving Mary alone at the manger.\u00a0 The Pageant ended and Joseph skipped the after-party.<\/p>\n<p>Years later, we still joke about the time Mary was a single mother.\u00a0 It was one of my best Christmas&#8217;s ever, because, Dude!\u00a0 I got to be Mary!\u00a0 So what if Joseph got sick and left Mary hangin&#8217;&#8230;\u00a0 That just makes it more memorable.\u00a0 Because, Dude!! \u00a0 I got to be Mary!\u00a0 WOOHOO!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I woke up to this: And it so reminded me of the time I was in like 4th or 5th grade or something and finally got a crack at the &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[6,21],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-881","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-family_life","category-randomness"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/yuriar.com\/katp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/881","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/yuriar.com\/katp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/yuriar.com\/katp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/yuriar.com\/katp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/yuriar.com\/katp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=881"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/yuriar.com\/katp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/881\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/yuriar.com\/katp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=881"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/yuriar.com\/katp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=881"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/yuriar.com\/katp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=881"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
