BigBoy bumped his knee on the wall this evening, just before dinner.\u00a0 When I say bumped, I mean \u201cWHACK!!!!!\u201d He hit that wall so hard, had to check the wall for damage.\u00a0 Anyway, after his little run in with the wall, he said it hurt to walk.\u00a0 Well, I’ll bet, dude!\u00a0 I said he probably bruised his knee, but he insisted that hurt really bad.\u00a0 I checked him out, and there was no swelling, he couldn’t even narrow down a sore spot.\u00a0 He just said that there was “a ball of hurtie dust” in his knee, then he ran after his big brother to play Bioncles or something.\u00a0 A few minutes later, he couldn\u2019t decide if it was his foot or his knee that hurt, plus, he was walking fine, all while telling me it hurt to walk.\u00a0 I looked at it again.\u00a0 There is a ticklish spot under his pinkie toe, but nothing in the knee that indicated damage.\u00a0\u00a0 BigBoy was not convinced however, and vowed he wanted to go to the hospital it hurt so bad, a statment he made while kneeling in his chair at dinner time.\u00a0 So, I called Gramma for advice.<\/p>\n
Gramma said it sounded more like he wanted some special attention then was truly hurt.\u00a0 I agree, because I know this boy, and I know the situation in our house right now.\u00a0 I know the poor kid is feeling stressed a bit, and a fake owie for attention is a very real possiblity.<\/p>\n
So, Gramma, with wisdom gained from years of experience with little hypochondriacs<\/span> children, suggested mixing up a \u201cSpecial Cure”, otherwise known as a teeny bit of Olive Oil.\u00a0 Rub it into the knee, all while telling him that if he rests the knee for tonight, it would be all better in the morning becuz of the \u201cspecial medicine.\u201d\u00a0 So I did.\u00a0 I added an Ace Bandage at BigBoy\u2019s request, and a Reece\u2019s Peanut Butter Heart, that I let him eat out on the couch with his leg up.<\/p>\n It seems to have worked.\u00a0 He said it was feeling better when I got him dressed in his jammies.\u00a0 So, in the morning, we\u2019ll take off the Ace Bandage and see what he says.\u00a0 But I think the “hurtie dust” has been successfully banished.\u00a0 At least for this time around.<\/p>\n
