I'm one lucky girl!

So the mail came while I was putting the munchkins to bed for “quiet time” also known as “Parental Sanity Saving Time”. Dh stepped out to get it. I came back down the stairs to find dh standing the middle of the living room with a bulky envelope in his hands looking very strange. As I stepped off the last stair, I heard him ask in a very concerned voice, “Honey, who do you know in Spain?” What? Spain? I don’t know know people in Spain. Italy, yes, Spain, no. I reached out to take the envelope, and he snatched it out of my reach. It was then I saw that it was a plain envelope, with no return address. DH very calmly said, “No, I’ll open it. I’m the one who’s had the anthrax shots.” and he walked out into the backyard and closed the door behind him to open the envelope.

Talk about tense! But the tension broke about 2 seconds later when he realized, no powder, no bomb… just a letter from the “International Lotto Commision” claiming I had won! It stated there was a mix up in names, and that I had been choosen for 3rd prize, 615, 810 Euro. (roughly the same in $$ as the exchange rate is pretty even)… What the…?? I never entered any Lottery!!

So, now that the letter was deemed safe, DH brought it back in the house and we both looked it over… It just felt bad to me… like one of those phishing scams we all get in our email, telling us we need to log in to this other website to verify our bank information. Then I noticed that the page on the back requested that I give them my name, birthday, and bank acct # and routing #. Big red flags at that point. I was pretty sure it was a scam… so to be safe, I googled it. I typed in “International Lotto Commision” and sure enough… the first 10 entries screamed “SCAM!”

Afterwards, we had a good laugh… and I thought about it. My DH is pretty awesome. He was willing to risk life and limb to save me from what he thought could be anything from a bomb to an anthrax attack. How did I ever get so lucky to wind up with guy as great as him? *S* Te amo mi amor, con todo mi corazon, para siempre y siempre. *S*

BTW – if you ever see this (pictured below) in your mail, don’t respond! You are actually supposed to report it to your local post office…

Phishing Scam
Phishing. It’s not just for email anymore.
