{"id":48,"date":"2009-01-20T13:13:19","date_gmt":"2009-01-20T18:13:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yuriar.com\/politics\/?p=48"},"modified":"2009-01-20T13:13:19","modified_gmt":"2009-01-20T18:13:19","slug":"i-refuse-to-steal-their-innocence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/yuriar.com\/conservakat\/i-refuse-to-steal-their-innocence\/","title":{"rendered":"I refuse to steal their innocence."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If I hear one more person say that I <em>need<\/em> to watch the innaugaration today, or that I <em>need<\/em> to have my kids watch it today, because it&#8217;s <em>soooo historical<\/em>&#8230;\u00a0 I may just scream.<\/p>\n<p>I even turned off twitter today, because every time I see, &#8220;<em>oh, it&#8217;s soo historical!<\/em>&#8221; flash across my screen, I feel the urge to punch something.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s just get this clear.\u00a0 Every Inauguration is historic. It&#8217;s not everyday someone takes the oath of office and becomes President of the United States. Why is this getting so much attention, just because the man taking the oath this time is black? I thought race wasn&#8217;t supposed to matter.\u00a0 I&#8217;m frustrated, because I&#8217;ve been told I&#8217;m racist if I don&#8217;t support him, but isn&#8217;t it racist to elevate a person simply based on race?\u00a0 Someone treid to tell me that I&#8217;d feel differently if it was a woman taking the office, and honestly, no.\u00a0 I wouldn&#8217;t.\u00a0 Race or sex shouldn&#8217;t matter, and to me it doesn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>Besides all that, my kids don&#8217;t see color, which is how it should be.\u00a0 To tell them that today is such a big deal because he&#8217;s black is to wipe that out.\u00a0 Because I would have to explain racism and the like in order to put this in perspective.\u00a0 Like <a class=\"name\" href=\"http:\/\/www.plurk.com\/user\/Becka\">N1njetteBecks<\/a> said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It sucks to have to explain why it&#8217;s important, if that makes sense. It&#8217;s like stealing their innocence and introducing them to the bigotry.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Exactly.
