{"id":326,"date":"2010-07-28T18:24:15","date_gmt":"2010-07-28T23:24:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yuriar.com\/politics\/?p=326"},"modified":"2010-07-28T18:24:15","modified_gmt":"2010-07-28T23:24:15","slug":"affirmative-action-hits-wall-st","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/yuriar.com\/conservakat\/affirmative-action-hits-wall-st\/","title":{"rendered":"Affirmative Action hits Wall St."},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>A little-noticed section of the Wall Street reform law grants the federal government broad new powers to compel financial firms to hire more women and minorities \u2014 an effort at promoting diversity that\u2019s drawing fire from Republicans who say it could lead to de facto hiring quotas.<\/p>\n<p>Deep inside the massive overhaul bill, Congress gives the federal government authority to terminate contracts with any financial firm that fails to ensure the \u201cfair inclusion\u201d of women and minorities, forcing every kind of company from a Wall Street giant to a mom-and-pop law office to account for the composition of its work force.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0710\/40313.html\">Feds demand diversity on Wall Street &#8211; Carrie Budoff Brown &#8211; POLITICO.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But here&#8217;s the kicker, Ms. Susan Collins, a RINO from Maine says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt is very sweeping, from my review of the legislation,\u201d  said Collins,  who voted for the bill. \u201cIt talks not just about federal  offices and  agencies. It also talks about contractors and  subcontractors, and so the  implications are very unclear and can be  read to require quotas, and  that\u2019s an entirely different and  controversial debate and does not  belong in the financial bill.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/70323761@N00\/348546345\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"NYC - Bowling Green: Charging Bull\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/142\/348546345_ed90e9d509_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by WallyG<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Then why, why, why did you vote for this monstrosity?!?!\u00a0 This whole thing is just a mess! This was like HCR 2.0.\u00a0 Did she even bother to read the bill before she voted for it? If so, why vote yes on something that is full of things like this, that just don&#8217;t belong in a financial bill?\u00a0 ARRGGHH!<\/p>\n<p>There are no clearly defined quotas, or standards of diversity.\u00a0 It&#8217;s up to whoever is in charge of implementing this nonsense &#8211; probably another soon-to-be-appointed Czar &#8211; to decide whether or not to enforce this Affirmative Action on these companies.\u00a0 This bit especially gets me:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>forcing every kind of company from a Wall Street giant to a mom-and-pop  law office to account for the composition of its work force.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So, essentially, if your office doesn&#8217;t meet up with some arbitrary idea of what a &#8220;diverse workforce&#8221; should be, someone needs to get fired so we can hire a different skin tone.\u00a0 <strong>How is that not racism?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And just where is this blatant racism coming from? Not Breitbart or the teaparties.
