{"id":1001,"date":"2013-09-13T13:10:40","date_gmt":"2013-09-13T13:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yuriar.com\/conservakat\/?p=1001"},"modified":"2013-09-13T13:10:40","modified_gmt":"2013-09-13T13:10:40","slug":"eminent-domain-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/yuriar.com\/conservakat\/eminent-domain-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Eminent Domain WIN!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yuriar.com\/conservakat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/02\/victory.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-177\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yuriar.com\/conservakat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/02\/victory.jpg\" width=\"594\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In a stunning loss for Old Dominion University, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority did not have the right to condemn a nearby apartment building for ODU\u2019s expansion.<\/p>\n<p>The decision, which reversed a Circuit Court ruling, could mean the end of a bitter and long-running fight between ODU and three holdout business owners who have fought for years to stay on their land, even as property owners all around them ceded.<\/p>\n<p>PKO Ventures, the owner of the apartments, will get back its 10-unit building, which was emptied of its tenants last year.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling also likely will mean that two other businesses, Central Radio and Norva Plastics, will get to stay on their land, said their lawyer, Joe Waldo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s over,\u201d he said. \u201cI think this makes it very clear that the authority never existed for these condemnations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hamptonroads.com\/2013\/09\/high-court-rules-against-odu-eminent-domain-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read More<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Tea Party was instrumental in passing the reform to Eminent Domain last year.
