{"id":51,"date":"2007-11-22T14:03:52","date_gmt":"2007-11-22T19:03:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aprendemos.yuriar.com\/blog\/?p=47"},"modified":"2007-11-22T14:03:52","modified_gmt":"2007-11-22T19:03:52","slug":"he-had-fun-i-just-tried-not-to-completely-lose-my-cookies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/yuriar.com\/aprendemosacademy\/2007\/11\/22\/he-had-fun-i-just-tried-not-to-completely-lose-my-cookies\/","title":{"rendered":"He had fun&#8230;  I just tried not to completely lose my cookies."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Biology and Thanksgiving dinner, all wrapped up in a flesh-colored package.<\/p>\n<p>Yup.<\/p>\n<p>We turned the turkey into a biology lesson.<\/p>\n<p>GeekBoy wanted to check out the turkey&#8217;s neck.\u00a0 So after checking out the inside of the bird, flapping the wings, and checking out the legs, we inspected all that fun stuff they send in little plastic baggies<a href=\"http:\/\/geekygourmet.com\/2006\/09\/19\/turkey-giblets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> inside the birds<\/a>.\u00a0 We checked out the neck, and the muscles and tendons that make it work.\u00a0 Then we looked at the liver.\u00a0 We dissected the heart, and checked out the different chambers and saw all the blood vessels.\u00a0 Then we cut into a gizzard, though, honestly, we weren&#8217;t sure what it was at the time.\u00a0 Dad and I guessed at kidneys.\u00a0 Close, but\u00a0 no cigar.\u00a0 I can now tell you that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kidzone.ws\/animals\/turkey.htm\" title=\"(scroll to the bottom for the glossary)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gizzard<\/a> is the turkey&#8217;s stomach.\u00a0 More accurately, it&#8217;s the part of the bird&#8217;s stomach that contains tiny stones, used in digestion.<\/p>\n<p>Yup. \u00a0 The learning never stops at Casa del Yuriar.\u00a0 There is no such thing as a holiday here at Apredemos Academy.\u00a0 Everything and anything can be turned into a learning experience.\u00a0 <em>How awesome is that?<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Biology and Thanksgiving dinner, all wrapped up in a flesh-colored package.
