It was almost always wet, and the constant sounds of shelling &amp; gun fire drove many men insane. There is a great documentary called &#8220;Digging Up the Trenches&#8221; where a team of archeologists dug up the front line trenches of the both the Allies &amp; the Germans in Ypres, Belgium.\u00a0 I&#8217;m including it here, even though my kids likely won&#8217;t want to watch it, because I thought it was very well done.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube=https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y33b_e-cqGM]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/yuriar.com\/aprendemosacademy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/christmastruce.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-457 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/yuriar.com\/aprendemosacademy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/christmastruce.jpg\" alt=\"christmastruce\" width=\"460\" height=\"276\" data-srcset=\"http:\/\/yuriar.com\/aprendemosacademy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/christmastruce.jpg 460w, http:\/\/yuriar.com\/aprendemosacademy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/christmastruce-300x180.jpg 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 460px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 460\/276;\" \/><\/a>Just about the only highlight to come out of the trenches was the famed &#8220;Christmas Truce of 1914&#8221;.\u00a0 This is when both sides came out of their trenches and played soccer in No Man&#8217;s Land for a while on Christmas day.\u00a0 There was a crap-ton of information about this event put out just this last Christmas, because it was the 100 year anniversary of the event.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a wonderful website &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christmastruce.co.uk\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Christmas Truce<\/a> &#8211; that has alot of great information, and really, just hit up google.\u00a0 You could not go anywhere this past Christmas and not hear this story.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Life in the trenches of World War 1 sucked.
